Different types of medical wastes and their disposal process

Medical waste needs to be disposing of properly and carefully. The serious issues in medical disposal are spreading infections. Some of the Medical Waste Products like pathological wastes contain severe infectious agents and sharp objects like injections and scissors cause injury to others. Some of the medical hazardous waste contains highly toxic compounds which cause injury.

Types of medical wastes

  • Hazardous waste - The medical waste that is dangerous like sharp scissors, some chemical wastes and discarded surgical equipment. This doesn’t cause any infectious.
  • General waste – A large amount of common medical wastes like common household and office waste things.
  • Radioactive waste – The waste generated because of radioactive treatments like cancer therapies and medical equipment which uses nuclear elements.
  • Infectious waste – The medical wastes which cause infections to humans like human tissue, blood or any other contaminated bodily fluids.

  • Pharmaceutical waste – Some of the unused and expired medicines or drugs, creams, antibiotics, pills etc.
  • Chemical waste – Some of the liquid wastes, mostly from machines, disinfectants and batteries.

Disposal process

  1. Incineration – This is the process of burning medical hazardous wastes. The controlled air, rotary air and excess air are the most common incinerators used in this process.
  2. Thermal process – In this process, the thermal energy is used to destroy the pathogens present in the wastes. Three types of thermal process – low-heat, medium heat and high heat thermal process.

Final thoughts

There are many institutions which provide best Compliance Training & Consulting, so one should take the proper training to dispose of the medical wastes.
